Charlie started his working life in photography, specialising in fashion and advertising, and found early on that he had a passion for portraiture. During this time he completed various introductory courses in counselling and counselling skills before attending Goldsmiths, University of London, where he gained a Foundation certificate in Art Psychotherapy.
He has been practising Pilates since 1998, when an osteopath suggested that it would be necessary in order to avoid regular and ongoing treatment for back issues. He qualified with Body Control Pilates® as a matwork instructor in 2012 and as a reformer instructor in 2015, continuing his professional development as a member of the Body Control Pilates Association® and Society for the Pilates Method®. Charlie is qualified in pre- and post-natal Pilates, and to teach on the Cadillac, Chair, Ladder Barrel and all small equipment.
Charlie taught group matwork, reformer and public studio classes at the Body Control Pilates Centre in London for five years before moving to Chichester, where he has taught as part of the team at the Westbourne Osteopathic and Wellness Clinic, the Boxgrove Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation Clinic and most recently Chichester Physio Clinic, working to take clients forward with their rehabilitation and on to developing resilient, strong and flexible bodies.
In 2022, he completed a Diploma in Humanistic Counselling at the University of Chichester.
Charlie says, “I have found a powerful crossover between portraiture, Pilates and counselling, which in time I hope to explore further and understand better, not only to provide a more holistic approach to every client but to offer a greater understanding of the possibilities within this environment. My intention going forward is to offer an increasing number and variety of therapeutic classes, workshops, groups and opportunities for people to connect with themselves and others.”
EMAIL CHARLIEIt’s all about the therapeutic potential within the space – a place to reflect and realign, to breathe, to focus, to let go of tension and connect with oneself. These are essentially five of the eight basic Pilates principles of concentration, relaxation, alignment, breathing and centring alongside the other three – coordination, flowing movement and stamina. It’s an unpretentious space, open to all, with something for everyone.
